"The Mission of Nourishing the North Shore is to ensure equal access to healthy food to all members of the greater Newburyport community in a manner that builds community, fosters connection, and promotes dignity and self-reliance."
What We Do
- Build and Maintain Community Gardens
- Develop and Lead Educational Programs
- Support Local Farmers
- Create Access Channels to Healthy Food
- Work directly with Community Members
- Innovate and Challenge the Industrial Food System
Kitchen Garden Program - We work with families to plan, build, and maintain kitchen gardens at their homes.
Pitch In - We coordinate with local farms and put together volunteer groups to glean, weed, or work on a project. Sign up to be a volunteer to receive updates on Pitch In events.
Stir the Pot - Our recovery and distribution program that picks up excess produce from local farms, redistributes to food pantries, community cupboards, and holds mobile produce stands.
Food Recovery- We rescue wholesome foods from our local schools that would otherwise enter the waste stream (milk, yogurt, apples, oranges etc.) throughout the school year & redistribute to seniors and families in need in the Greater Newburyport community.
Cooking & Nutrition- NNS offers cooking and nutrition classes for all ages throughout the year featuring local produce.
Bees- We have four hives at the Emery House. These girls are busy pollinating our gardens!
