The Bees Knees

The NNS beekeepers have been busy with their three new colonies and the "Rogue Hive" of bees that decided to set up shop in some old hives that were stacked outside the shed! The honeybees are full steam ahead with plenty of pollen, nectar, capped honey & brood (baby bees) in the hives. During a recent hive inspection we found the queen! Can you spot her?

Did you know that bees have some serious dance moves?! Check out this video on the "Waggle Dance" to see the girls in action.

Honeybees communicate using the waggle dance, a form of bee body language. A worker bee will shake her body after finding a food source or potential nest site. The direction and length of each shimmy indicates to her hivemates the distance and direction of the valuable resource.
